Assisting almost 100 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.<\/h2>\n

As the international community has committed to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat<\/strong>. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On any given day, WFP has 5,600 trucks, 30 ships and nearly 100\u00a0planes on the move,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>delivering food and other assistance<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to those in most need.\u00a0<\/span>Every year<\/strong>, it distributes more than\u00a015 billion rations<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>at an estimated average cost per ration of\u00a0<\/span>US$ 0.61<\/strong>. In emergencies, WFP is often first on the scene,\u00a0providing food assistance<\/strong>\u00a0to the victims of war, civil conflict, drought, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures and natural disasters. When the emergency subsides, WFP helps communities\u00a0rebuild shattered lives and livelihoods<\/strong>. WFP also works to\u00a0strengthen the resilience\u00a0of people and communities affected by protracted crises<\/strong>\u00a0by applying a development lens in humanitarian response.<\/p>\n

WFP development projects focus on\u00a0nutrition<\/strong>, especially for mothers and children, addressing malnutrition from the earliest stages through programmes targeting the\u00a0first 1,000 days<\/strong>\u00a0from conception to a child\u2019s second birthday, and later through\u00a0school meals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

WFP is the largest humanitarian organization implementing school feeding programmes worldwide and has been doing so for over 50 years. At least three quarters<\/strong> of it comes from developing countries<\/strong>. By buying food as close as possible to where it is needed<\/strong>, we can save time and money on transport costs, and help sustain local economies<\/strong>. Increasingly, WFP meets people\u2019s food needs through cash-based transfers<\/strong> that allow the people we serve to choose and shop for their own food locally.<\/p>\n

WFP also provides services to the entire humanitarian community<\/strong>, including passenger air transportation through the UN Humanitarian Air Service<\/strong>, which flies to more than 280 locations worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Funded entirely by voluntary donations<\/strong>, in 2018 WFP raised a record US$7.2 billion. WFP has more than 17,000 staff worldwide<\/strong> of whom over 90 percent<\/strong> are based in the countries where the agency provides assistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

WFP is governed by a 36-member Executive Board<\/strong>. It works closely with its two Rome-based sister organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. The partnership with WFP broadens the scope of the project highlighting two important causes, ending hunger and building resilience for communities in the face of climate change, that have become even more urgent in the light of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Life Stream will be a four-day long festival<\/strong> that will take place at the legendary EXIT mts Dance Arena<\/strong>. The festival will feature the global and regional acts with videos drawing attention to the environment and the looming hunger crisis. Festival will also promote tourist attractions of Serbia and the city of Novi Sad, home of the EXIT festival. In addition to the music festival, an international panel within the \u201cConscious R:evolution\u201d<\/strong><\/a> platform will discuss key issues around the unfolding pandemic as well as highlight the cooperation between WFP and EXIT.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s project is an introduction to a broader cooperation in 2021, which will mark two important anniversaries, 60 years of WFP and the 20th anniversary of the EXIT festival<\/strong>.
